Integrated or Standalone?

When planning your laundry renovation, one of the first decisions is how it fits into your home’s footprint. We can help you weigh up the pros and cons of each layout to find what suits your space and lifestyle. We’ll help you design the setup that complements your floor plan without sacrificing performance.

  • Dedicated Laundry Room – Ideal for busy households or families who need space to sort, soak, and store. Provides privacy and clear separation from kitchen or entertaining zones. If you have a home large enough to have a dedicated laundry room it can also include features such as a pet bath, laundry chutes to connecting rooms and more.
  • Combined Utility Room – A popular choice for acreage properties or homes with larger footprints, this setup blends laundry functions with butler’s pantry storage, extra sinks, or even mudroom elements.
  • Compact Integrated Laundry – For smaller homes or townhouses, laundries can be tucked into kitchens, hallways, or concealed cabinetry. With clever planning, even a cupboard can house a full-function laundry.

Materials Make The Difference

Your laundry needs to work hard and look good doing it. At Brookie Build, we recommend materials that stand up to heat, humidity, and frequent use, while still achieving the look you love.

Flooring – A laundry floor must be durable, waterproof, and safe underfoot. These materials balance practicality with design appeal while standing up to everyday wear.
  • Porcelain or Ceramic Tiles – These are a classic choice for laundries thanks to their water resistance, ease of cleaning, and resistance to wear. Available in endless colours and patterns, they can blend into your home’s style or add a feature look.
  • Hybrid or Vinyl Planks – These timber-look options provide warmth and texture while being soft underfoot and highly water-resistant. Ideal for laundries integrated into living zones or where you want visual flow with adjacent flooring.

Our team will help you choose the right option based on your style, budget, and lifestyle needs.

Benchtops & Splashback Surfaces – These surfaces need to endure constant contact with water, detergents, and heat while still looking polished.
  • Engineered Stone – Non-porous, stylish, and easy to clean. It’s great for folding, sorting, or soaking, and resists stains from detergents and bleaches.
  • Laminate – Budget-conscious but still durable. Modern laminates come in a wide range of colours and textures, including realistic stone and timber-look finishes, perfect for secondary wet zones.
  • Tiled Splashbacks – Whether you want a bold pop of colour or a classic white subway tile, splashbacks protect your walls and provide an opportunity to express style and personality.

We’ll recommend materials that align with both your design vision and daily routine.

Cabinetry & Storage Solutions – Functional storage transforms a laundry from frustrating to effortless. We build cabinetry that works with your space and supports the way you do your laundry.
  • Custom Joinery – Tailored to awkward spaces and full wall heights, our joinery options include pull-out hampers, overhead cupboards, integrated ironing boards, and tall broom closets.
  • Melamine or 2-Pack Finishes – Melamine offers a tough, wipeable surface ideal for utility spaces. 2-pack adds a premium edge with seamless finishes in matte, satin, or gloss.
  • Integrated Drying Rails or Hanging Spaces – Built-in hanging rods, ceiling-mounted airers, or fold-down drying racks help you manage washing efficiently regardless of the weather.

We design for form and function – ensuring your laundry works as beautifully as it looks.

Tapware, Sinks & Fixtures – Fixtures should offer both durability and ease of use, particularly when dealing with heavy-duty laundry tasks.
  • Gooseneck or Pull-Out Mixers – These give you extra clearance and flexibility for rinsing buckets or cleaning large items like trays or pet gear.
  • Inset or Farmhouse Sinks – An inset stainless steel sink is a practical all-rounder. For a more decorative or traditional look, farmhouse sinks offer deep capacity and strong visual appeal.

We’ll help you select fixtures that blend seamlessly with the tone of your space.

Laundry Lighting Essentials – Bright and thoughtful lighting makes your laundry safer and more pleasant to work in.
  • Bright Task Lighting – Ceiling-mounted LED downlights or batten lights ensure even illumination over workspaces for sorting, soaking, and folding.
  • Under-Cabinet or Feature Lighting – Adds warmth and character to your laundry. Consider strip lighting beneath overhead cabinets or motion-activated fixtures in tall cupboards.

We’ll design your lighting plan to enhance the atmosphere while ensuring task areas are well lit.

Appliances & Appliance Storage – Thoughtful appliance planning maximises function and keeps your laundry clutter-free.
  • Washer & Dryer Integration – Side-by-side or stacked setups with built-in cabinetry to conceal or frame appliances neatly.
  • Ironing Stations – Pull-out or fold-down ironing boards built into cabinetry save space and make everyday tasks easier.
  • Steam Closets – For those who prefer low-maintenance garment care, steam closets can freshen clothes without harsh washing.
  • Vacuum Charging & Storage Nooks – Custom cabinets for stick vacuums or robotic cleaners keep your space organised and ready to use.
  • Appliance Ventilation & Electrical – We make sure all appliances are installed safely, with the right power, drainage, and airflow to protect your investment.

You can purchase your appliances directly prior to cabinetry design to ensure that they will fit perfectly. Talk to us about your holistic plan and we’ll work with you to achieve your vision.

Frequently Asked Questions

Planning a kitchen renovation often comes with plenty of questions – and we’re here to make the process as clear and stress-free as possible. Below are answers to some of the most common things our clients ask when starting their journey.

How long does a laundry renovation usually take?

Most laundry renovations are completed within a short timeframe, depending on the complexity of layout changes, custom joinery, and material lead times. In general, we do not commence demolition until we are ready to build immediately after. Good planning and preparation will ensure all materials are ready to go and we can speed through the build and get you back to operational as soon as possible.

Do I need a dedicated laundry room or can it be combined with other areas?

It depends on your space and needs. Some homes benefit from a combined utility room that includes laundry, pantry, or mudroom functions. Others require a fully separate room for privacy and functionality. We’ll help you decide what suits your layout and lifestyle.

Can a laundry be integrated into my kitchen?

Yes. In smaller homes, it’s common to hide laundry appliances behind cabinetry in the kitchen or create a mini laundry cupboard in a hallway. With good ventilation and design, these can be efficient and attractive solutions.

Do you help with laundry design or just construction?

We offer both. Our team will guide you through the design process, recommend layout and material choices, and then bring it all together during the build.

What factors affect the cost of a laundry renovation?

Size, materials, appliance relocation, and custom cabinetry all influence cost. Rather than guess, we recommend contacting our team to discuss your project and receive a free quote tailored to your vision.

Can you renovate a laundry in an older Queenslander or character home?

Absolutely. We have experience working with traditional homes and can blend modern laundry function with classic styling, keeping your home’s charm intact.

Do I need council approval for a laundry renovation?

Most internal renovations that don’t affect structural walls or plumbing placement won’t require approval, but if in doubt, especially in character zones, we’ll help you check with the council.

Is ventilation important in a laundry?

Yes. Proper ventilation helps reduce moisture build-up and protect your cabinetry and finishes. We can advise on options like exhaust fans, window placement, or door vents.

Can you install new appliances as part of the renovation?

Yes. We can coordinate appliance installation as part of the build, just let us know your selections or we can recommend options based on your space.

What makes a laundry renovation successful?

Good planning, efficient use of space, quality materials, and smart storage. We work closely with you from concept to completion to make sure every detail suits your home and habits.
